Set against a backdrop of stunning ocean views and serene farmland, Whidbey Island is a near-perfect location for a marathon. Every run offers some of the most stunning scenery of the Pacific Northwest. This year is the 18th year of the marathon.

Competitive runners can do the full marathon which is a Boston Marathon Qualifier. Serious runners can do the half marathon. Enthusiasts can run the 10K. For the rest of us, there’s also a 5K run and for the youngsters, they’ll enjoy the Kids Run.

An American version of the Dutch festival, “King’s Day,” the festival traces its roots to the Netherlands. Featuring delicious food, vendor booths, and exhibitions to highlight the multi-cultural dynamic of Whidbey Island’s largest city, the festival will honor and celebrate the diverse cultures that came together in Oak Harbor.

Holland Happening 2018 celebrates the many cultures that have come together in Oak Harbor. The festival began as an American version of “King’s Day” in the Netherlands and marked the region’s Dutch heritage.

A 40-year tradition, be sure to join all of Whidbey Island for this uniquely patriotic parade put on by the Coupeville Chamber of Commerce. More than a parade, there will also be a concert and picnic. Traversing the historic downtown district, after the parade, there will also be a remembrance ceremony and concert at the Coupeville Town Park’s bandstand.

Whidbey Sail Fest

Celebrating Whidbey Island’s maritime heritage on this nautical weekend, this year’s Whidbey Sail Fest will feature three stunning sailing ships including the Schooner Suva, S/V Cutty Sark, and the Hawaiian Chieftain. Beyond nautical activities, there will be other fun activities including vessel tours, nautical booths on the wharf, and music. You can even sail with historians.
